List Of Infectious Diseases

When it comes to our health, an ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure as it allows your body to stay away from diseases and conditions that could not only harm your health but also your wallets. With prevention, you can always save a great deal of money that is spent to treat illnesses by which you are not even sure if it is curable or not. One important means to be able to prevent diseases from harming your body is knowledge; and this refers to knowing and understanding the list of infectious diseases that are lurking around the corner, waiting for a chance to infect you with its infectious sting. Knowing about the list of infectious diseases allows you to be aware of their causes, the ill effects it can give your body and what you can do to stay away from it. 

First, you must know that infectious diseases are commonly caused by bacterial, viral, fungal or protozoan infection and they are mostly contagious; yet even if some of them are not contagious, they can still be transmitted either from animal to person or person to person way. This really calls for prevention because there the treatment of some of these diseases have not yet been discovered and some of the treatments are usually only to get rid of the symptoms. That is why it has also been known that infectious disease kill a lot of people than any other causes of death. So, for your ounce of prevention, here is a common  list of infectious diseases you must be aware of to be able to stay away from them:

  • Cholera. This disease is caused by the bacteria called Vibrio cholerae that causes an infection of the intestine and are usually found in water and food sources contaminated by feces of a cholera-infected person so this infection are usually found in places with poor sanitation. The symptoms of this infection are diarrhea that can cause dehydration and shock, vomiting and leg cramps, which if untreated, may lead to death.
  • Dengue. This disease that is very popular in more countries is caused by viruses transmitted by mosquitoes and it strikes people with low immunity and resistance. Dengue usually leads to death because of the fact that its severe symptoms are often found out too late already as its initial symptoms resemble that of common flu like headache, fever, exhaustion, muscle and joint pain and the "rash" symptoms usually appear later.
  • Hepatitis A. This a liver disease that is highly contagious and though it is usually caused by factors that can damage the liver, it is commonly caused by ingestion of contaminated water or food with symptoms including  fever, fatigue, jaundice, etc. 

Aside from this list of infectious diseases mentioned, there are still many other infectious diseases included in this list like AIDS, malaria, measles, pneumonia, tuberculosis, typhoid, yellow fever, etc. And like the above-mentioned list of infectious diseases, they are very serious diseases that should not be taken for granted for it can lead to death. And because treating them is not as simple as treating a cough, an ounce of prevention is gravely required.
